Zimbabwe tour – a perfect end to my journey

After two nights in Victoria Falls town during my Zimbabwe tour, how nice it was to reach Tsowa Safari island.. not a sound other than the birds and river flow. The best thing about staying here was the boating at dawn and sunset… we did not see too much wildlife, mainly birds, but I did not mind as being on the river was so relaxing. It’s usually possible to walk in the forest on the island, but not while I was there, as a few elephants had swam out and were roaming nearby and through the camp… I could hear them breaking branches at night beside my tent.

Longer walks are also possible back on the mainland, but I did not have time during a two night stay, choosing a kayaking trip instead – highly recommended, and very easy as we went with the strong current, rendezvousing with the vehicle and drinks.

Food was outstanding, and portions just right. Really liked how the whole camp is built in harmony with the forest. Even the outdoor shower apparatus made use of a hollow tree. Despite the river location, no issues with insects.

The bush nearby the lodge is quite thick this time of year, and apart from birds we mostly saw kudu, bushbuck, water buck and impala. But on the last evening, we went on a longer game drive to the interior of Zambezi national park, to an open “vlei” with several waterholes and saw giraffes, elephant and zebras. The drive back after sunset was the perfect end to my Zimbabwe tour, spotting a genet and a giant eagle owl.
